Background : This year Australia celebrates the 60th ('diamond') anniversary of Citizenship. On 26 January 1949 the Nationality and Citizenship Act came into effect, creating the new status of Australian citizen. This important piece of legislation meant that for the first time, we could truly call ourselves Australians (previously British subjects). Therefore we named our teams: The Citizen SHIP & The 49ers ( 1949) DIAC’s Citizenship Division has sponsored t-shirts for both teams (white polo shirt) profiling '60 years of Australian Citizenship’ celebrations. DIAC staff are always up for a challenge. We saw this as an opportunity for fun and fitness and to support the very worthwhile breast cancer fundraiser. |
