Peoplescape
Australians across the country have already enjoyed a wide range of activities
and events celebrating Australia's Centenary of Federation. As 2001 draws
to a close there are still more events to come including the National
Finale to the Centenary Year, the Peoplescape.
The Peoplescape project celebrates the true spirit of Australia. In February
all Australians were invited to nominate someone whom they felt had significantly
affected their life, their community or their country. Nominations have
been received from all parts of Australia and these stories are now available
for you to read, by visiting the Stories area of this website.
As you will see when you explore the Peoplescape Stories, there have
been many wonderful nominations submitted, for both known and unknown
Australians. Their stories are of courage, loyalty, perseverance, generosity,
innovation and often, of humour and irreverence - we know you will enjoy
reading them.
Thousands of successful nominees have been sent a life size, person-shaped
cut-out to decorate, using whatever methods and materials best signifies
the personality and achievements of the person they nominated. The Selection
Panel found it very difficult to choose who should be invited to decorate
a figure. However, selections have been completed, the successful nominees
have received their person shaped cut-outs, and thousands of figures have
already been received back in Canberra ready to be installed on the slopes
of Parliament House and Federation Mall.
Our own Anna was nominated and accepted for the Peoplescape exhibition,
and her cut-out image, made so lovingly and professionally by her husband
David, was on display during the exhibition. Below is the image, which
displays her role both as ACT Coordinator for the Breast Cancer Network
of Australia, and as a member of ACT Dragons Abreast. The "paddle" was signed by members of the ACT team.
Anna Wellings Booth

What contribution has this person made?
She's helped make a difference to women diagnosed with breast cancer. Anna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and since that time has been an active volunteer with the following organisations: ACT Cancer Society Breast Cancer Support Group (currently a Board Member of the Society). Founding member of Bosom Buddies (Vice President for 2 years). ACT representative for Breast Cancer Network Australia (she co-ordinated, with my help, the planting of 10,000 silhouettes in front of Parliament House in 1998 at the launch of Breast Cancer Network Australia and the Field of Women. Volunteer with ACT Hospice and Palliative Care for five years. Is a consumer rep. on many committees. Was instrumental in starting Dragon's Abreast (ACT & Region) in 1999 - a Dragon Boat team of breast cancer survivors who compete in local and national events. Anna is going to Canada (with 6 other Aussies) to compete with a global team in Toronto in June.
Why this person is important?
She is my wife whom I admire and support in her community work. I particularly admire her when she finds the time to look after me!
