The Outback Dragons group received their boat on the 18th of December 2005 and had their first training session on Christmas Eve. Less than six
weeks later five members traveled to the Chinese New Year Festival at
Darling Harbor where they teamed up with a Brisbane team, “Miss-a-bit-a-titty” and helped win their first event.
The Outback Dragons group is sharing boat and training sessions with the Orana Dragon Boat Club in Dubbo. The club has people with a mixture of backgrounds and fitness levels and all club members are deeply committed to raising breast cancer awareness and to supporting people to live full lives after cancer and other serious illnesses.

Susan's first regatta - such enthusiasm!
Well what a great day! Was really excited when I paddled the first heat and didn't have to stop. Knew I could do it again for the second heat but didn't think I had enough energy left when it came time for the final but when our sweep yelled 50 metres to go and we're in 2nd place we all made a
superhuman effort It was an amazing feeling crossing the finishing line -
most of us had not an ounce of energy left, could hardly voice the three
cheers and then had to paddle the boat back in but I will never forget
yesterday and I have a silver medal to show my grandchildren and to
hopefully motivate the Dubbo ladies to get a group of their own*. This
paddling really gets into your blood. Hope to see you at the Dubbo meeting
and thanks again for the opportunity to experience the thrill of a
lifetime yesterday.
Susan
* group now up and running, thanks to Susan's energy and enthusiasm.
