We did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sydney PINK PASSION WON THE
DRAGONS ABREAST CHALLENGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Magnificent day at Penrith - sun out and the girls gunning for a win.
We paddled with fury down towards the finish line, the crowds (1000 odd)
in the grandstand cheering, yelling and screaming - I could even hear
bagpipes playing (courtesy of a guy I know from Port Hacking where I used
to paddle). The ladies in the back kept yelling "CHRIS, ROBIN"
each time their paddle went in the water, we were determined to have this
one this time, an important race we dedicated to these two gutsy women
so an especially emotional race for all of us. Lots of tears as we made
the finish line FIRST with a good half a boat's length in front. We then
did a "boat salute" back in front of the grandstand crowd -
I have never heard so much yelling and cheering in a regatta before -
so euphoric and exciting!
We rang both girls immediately to tell them the news, they being as excited
as us at the outcome.
I want to thank our magnificent coach Melanie, we could not have done
this without her support, encouragement and mentoring - you have really
gone to great lengths to get us to this stage in our paddling as a crew
and thanks also for wearing "our" Dragons abreast shirt all
day, much appreciated and noticed by all the women and commented on.
So we now have a huge trophy for one year, it will be given to Christine
first to have for a week or so. She is to have another bout of chemo on
her brain to-day so special thoughts are sent her way. Janet and I visited
Robin in hospital, she is looking well although still very tired but loved
the cup and I took a photo of her in her hospital gown holding this great
big trophy!
Lots of photos were taken on the day. The professional photographer that
Cynthia arranged took quite a few photos and they will be sent to her
shortly. I will bring mine and suggest that others do likewise on Saturday
to share with those who could not attend.
keep smiling!
Margot
