COMMUNITY/SOCIAL (clubs
not registered as a sports club)
Teams may be included in
this category by invitation of DBNSW.
Teams consist of a minimum
of 17 and a maximum of 24.
A crew consists of:
(a)
a drummer;
(b) a minimum of
6 and a maximum of 8 female paddlers; and
(c) a minimum of
10 and a maximum of 12 male paddlers.
The drummer can be either
male or female.
Steerers, known as "sweeps",
will be provided by DBNSW.
"Sports Paddler" means a paddler who:
(a)
is a registered
member of DBNSW or its interstate equivalent;
(b) is a member
of a DBNSW registered club;
(c) is a member
of an established dragon boat or outrigger canoe club.
The
Social/Community category was specifically created to allow teams to
enter who do not fit into the Corporate category. i.e. teams like Dragon
Abreast. Teams who don't train regularly, only had 1 training, or never
been in a boat before.
Any crews from "Sporting
Clubs" by virtue of having demonstrated historically both consistent
sporting prowess and competitiveness will be excluded from entering
this category and will be re-categorised if they submit entry to this
class.
