Never done it before? Neither had we! (And we hadn’t done any of the scary things you had us doing, either.) Dragon boating is the fastest growing sport in the country because it is so easy to learn the basics, so inclusive and so much fun. So be a sport! Give it a go! We promise you will:

  • have heaps of fun
  • learn a new skill
  • rediscover forgotten muscles
  • enjoy the company and support of your peers
  • be raising breast cancer awareness in the wider community
  • and, you might even win a medal!

We’ll run the usual training/safety sessions on the weekends prior to help you hone your paddling skills and pick up race-winning tactics. We can even arrange extra training sessions if you are really keen to win. But…

  • Surely you won’t let the Mater Radiation team win again!!
  • Did you know Liverpool are on the warpath?
  • We hear RPAH is back with a vengeance this year!
  • And what about the San? – we hear they are fed up with just coming second

To make up breast cancer-related hospital crews you need:

  • medical and radiation oncologists, surgeons,
  • radiation therapists and breast care nurses
  • and other professionals from your BC teams
  • we provide drummers and accredited sweeps

Can you hear the bling! bling! of more medals in the offing? Be there to get yours!

This year the funds raised in this race will again help Dragons Abreast Australia to provide:

  • insurances allowing more BC survivors to have access to the dragon boating experience.

Dragons Abreast Australia is the charity helping post-treatment breast cancer patients get back into life. Happily, a large percentage of women survive breast cancer these days but their transition from patient back into a full and active life is often daunting. Our organisation is a highly effective element in the ongoing post-treatment management of breast cancer patients, delivering significant physical and psycho-social benefits. All breast cancer survivors, regardless of age, gender, sporting ability or fitness are welcome to participate. We operate in cooperation with the NBCF and BCNA and, as appropriate, direct those who call our 1300 enquiry line to BCNA for their My Journey kit.

Dragons Abreast Australia is a, a registered not-for-profit company. All donations over $2.00 to Dragons Abreast Australia are tax deductible.

Dragons Abreast Sydney, a member of Dragons Abreast Australia, is a breast cancer survivor dragon boat team offering survivors and their supporters an opportunity to rebuild their fitness at their own pace, together with others who have travelled this path. We actively promote breast cancer awareness while demonstrating that people can still lead a full and active life despite breast cancer. We show that breast cancer does not discriminate on the basis of age or race and we give a ‘face’ to the breast cancer statistics.
