Inaugural Dragons Abreast Australia member convention : 17 to 19 September 2010
Feedback from the event
We are winging our way home to Coffs Harbour having enjoyed 3 days of information, education and fun. Unfortunately, the weather gods were not kind to us, resulting in paddling on the Huon being cancelled on the Friday and all but a short session of sweep training on the Sunday. However, despite the change in plans I believe that we all managed to enjoy ourselves. I for one learnt an enormous amount over the 3 days - I was reminded why there is such an organisation as Dragons Abreast. The cameraderie, the fun, the constant laughter and chatter of women (and men) enjoying each other's company and reconnecting with members who have now become friends. I found the weekend one which reiterated to me why I am a member of Dragons Abreast - it's not all about competition and winning, it's much more than that. Dragons Abreast has provided a vehicle for members of all ages and fitness levels to travel not only Australia, but the world, to paddle at international events and meet other breast cancer survivors. I know of no other organisation which is capable of providing such opportunities.
What I did take note of was the esteem with which the top class presenters, who took time away from their busy schedules to spend with us, held for not only our organisation but particularly for our founder, Michelle Hanton. This speaks for itself. We are all members of something unique and we must ensure that Dragons Abreast remains so.
Thank you to Paul and Karen Jarvis, Chris Alexandrou, Pam Bell, Yvonne Toering and Jane Hall for enlightening all of us. Thank you also to Ree Van Galen, Robyn Bishop and Jill Terry for taking us out of our comfort zones and encouraging us to view our lives from a different perspective.
Thank you to the hard working Tassie committee headed up by Rosemary Kerrison.
Most of all thank you, Michelle, for taking yourself out of your comfort zone when you stepped forward to give us Dragons Abreast.
Well done!
