Here is a photo of some of us with the DAA banner. It hangs on the wall at our Yacht Club which is where we spend a fair amount of time and where our boats are housed.

We wish you a very merry Christmas and a "DAM Oarsome" New Year!

holding hands

Our dream has come true! We are now the proud owners of our very own dragon boat thanks to the generosity of the people of Mackay. We held our official launch on Sunday 9th April. The weather was cold and windy but our spirits were warm as we all joined hands while Buddhist Nun, Namdag blessed our boat and our group. We went out into the Marina for a paddle and came back to celebrate at The Mackay Yacht Club which houses our boat for us.

It was a great day!

December 2005

We have been very busy in Mackay since the formation of our group on 30th July this year.

We held a very successful Celebrity Bras Auction and Brunch on 23rd October at the Yacht Club. There were 12 very original bras designed and created by well known people in Mackay which attracted bids of just over $2,400 in total! The proceeds of the day will go towards the purchase of our first dragon boat.

The manager of the Yacht club has very kindly offered us the use of an area to house boats, safety & other gear and full use of toilet and shower facilities so our dragon boat will have a very nice home when it arrives. We will be able to paddle in the Marina which is just beautiful. We will also be holding our meetings there on the deck overlooking our beautiful Harbour Beach and Marina and holding social nights with raffles every Friday night.

The Yacht Club is the new home of Dragons Abreast Mackay and we are all very excited about this!

We are very grateful for the wonderful support we have received from the Mackay community. It has been overwhelming!

Media - new Mackay team

July 2005

Mackay's new Dragons Abreast team will take to the water for the first time on Sunday. The team, made up of breast cancer survivors and the families and supporters, grew out of recent meetings to explore the concept which began in Canada. Committee members, from left, Angie McGowan, Chris Kenny, Cheryl Machen and Annette Lenton, were at Elmeo last weekend organising the first paddling session with the Sunset Bay Outriggers, but the emphasis will be on fun and participation rather than competition. The group hopes to be able to raise $10,000 to buy its own dragon boat.
