On Sunday 22nd March, 2009 Intrepid was blessed and welcomed by the people of Ballarat, family and friends of Dragons Abreast Ballarat, and other Dragons Abreast friends. It was a most moving ceremony, specially for the Angels Abreast families. The plaques on the bulwark of the boat were covered with sprays of flowers and each family representative unveiled the plaque of their loved one.

Pam Farey, mouth artistBallarat Dragons Abreast have been so lucky that one of our members is the well known talented local artist Pam Farey who volunteered to paint the head and tail for our new boat the Intrepid.  Pam is shown here with the vibrantly coloured head and tail which reflect the imagination and thought that Pam has been prepared to put into this important task.  Pam has also designed a stunning stencil to put on our paddles.

Pam Farey: Mouth painting became Pam’s new hobby after she was no longer able to play sport due to her physical condition.

Pam suffers from a rare neurological disease known as polyneuropathy which is a peripheral nerve disorder, and it is believed that the immune system attacks the nerves. In Pam’s case, this auto-immune disease has damaged the motor nerves in her arms and legs.

Pam skilfully taught herself to paint and she was recognised by MFPA as a student member in 1989. She has also completed a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Psychology, Visual Arts and Anthropology, and has a Graduate Diploma of Behavioural Health Care.

Pam’s vibrant style of painting incorporates animals, humour and country themes and currently resides in a small Victorian country village called Linton, just west of Ballarat.
