From a dream, 2 survivors and 2 supporters, no boat, no sweep and no equipment, we have evolved in 15 years to a group of 20 survivors, 33 supporters, 2 boats, our own boat shed built and paid for, and the ongoing and generous support of our 16,000 strong rural farming and fishing community . We are very thankful to a succession of loyal sponsors from local business. Our supporters are very valuable to our team and we welcome both survivors and supporters in the community to become members.
Distance is our challenge, we are 650km from our nearest sister group in Adelaide, and 2000km from the east coast where the majority of Dragons Abreast Australia groups paddle, but this does not stop our members paddling within the state, interstate and internationally.
We are proud supporters of Dragons Abreast Australia, Breast Cancer Network Australia, our local McGrath Breast Care nurse and of International Breast Cancer Paddling Commission.
We paddle with fishing boats, yachts, all sorts of leisure craft, as well as dolphins, seals and (not that we knew it at the time), a passing great white. Our coach and sweeps have marked out several race distances, and we enjoy showing off our skills to the Marina residents, triathletes and recovering footballers as we power past, always being conscious not to exceed the Marina speed limit! Our passion for paddling is matched only by our love and enjoyment of life in our beautiful part of Australia.
Visiting paddlers can join us at any time during our Sunday morning or summer Wednesday night sessions.
We welcome all potential members irrespective of age and fitness level. The first 4 come and try sessions are free. Wear comfortable clothing, non-slip shoes and bring along a drink bottle, hat, and sunscreen. We supply all the equipment.
