Dragons Abreast Festival Set to Celebrate 20 years of Paddling for Breast Cancer Recovery
The annual Dragons Abreast Festival's registrations have closed and excitement is building for the festival being held in Dragons Abreast Australia’s 20th anniversary year.
Sydney’s stunning Cockle Bay will come alive when the festival pits corporate and community challengers against each other in an epic day of dragon boating to raise breast cancer awareness and fund support for breast cancer survivors across Australia.
Held annually, the festival draws hundreds of dragon boaters ranging from absolute beginners to international competitors, all with a specific goal – to spread the message of paddling for recovery to breast cancer survivors.
This year's festival is shaping up to be a huge one with over 40 Corporate, Hospital and Social crews (over 1000 people) paddling and fundraising!
“Since the inaugural festival in 2008, the Dragons Abreast Festival has raised more than 1 million dollars for Dragons Abreast Australia, a national not-for-profit registered charity whose mission is to encourage wellness, fitness, fun and camaraderie for breast cancer survivors through the sport of dragon boating. With this upcoming festival, I am thrilled that we continue to positively impact the lives of breast cancer survivors and those living with the disease,” said Mabel Sansom, Chair of Dragons Abreast Australia.
‘After treatment many survivors ask 'what next' and dragon boating has proven to benefit their recovery process. Currently there are more than 30 Dragons Abreast groups in Australia and with the support of festival crews we can continue to expand and benefit more breast cancer survivors across the country.’
